Watchmen - spoiler alert

So I saw 'Watchmen' the other day. I've been pretty hyped about it, like most people. I know Zack did a hell of a job, visually at least, on 300. So, I'm thinking, combine that with Superheroes and hell, it should be awesome. I even shelled out the extra bucks to watch the digital projection on the mega screen. And I have to say, while some bits were visually stunning (even without IMAX, the shot straight down the side of the building was compelling) and graphic (ick, bullets through people's legs) it was kinda depressing. Maybe I would have known this if I'd read 'Watchmen' but I haven't. I'm an unbiased audience member, save my tiny career in the film biz. I wanted to see this amazing struggle and I felt like there wasn't one. I really don't think I liked the ending. Not that Dr. Manhattan takes the wrap but that Matthew Goode's character is totally cool with killing all those people because they have no belief in mankind being able to work it's shit out. Honestly, with out the little present and a bow with Jupiter and Owl guy at the end, the movie was depressing. It was well done for what it was but I was freaking depressed afterward and it isn't (despite my huge collection of dramas) a movie I would buy and watch over and over again.

I think, like I felt about 'The Dark Knight', that it might be a little too big for my TV.

  1. I so agree. I didn't like it much at all. The movie as a whole felt too convoluted with all of the different stuff going on. What the hell blue penis for like a full hour of that three hours, and so melodramatic at points. Pass.

  2. Yeah, even the nakedness of Crudup threw me off. I went with my mom and here's his penis just flying around. I also felt like they didn't need to delve into each persons past. I know why they did, but my f'n fault for not knowing the history. Don't bore the people who do by recapping for the whole audience. I didn't know it and it bored even me. Way too much to be put into the almost 3 hours it was.
